A US Marine charged over one of the Iraq war's most notorious massacres of civilians has agreed to a plea bargain that could see him serve only three months in prison.

Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, 26, of Connecticut, led the Marine squad in 2005 that killed 24 men, women and children in the town of Haditha after a roadside bomb exploded near a Marine convoy, killing one Marine and wounding two others.

Wuterich pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty on Monday, reaching a deal that has seen the manslaughter charges dropped. The maximum he will face is three months in prison, two-thirds forfeiture of pay and a rank demotion to private.

'But the fact of the matter is that he has now been totally exonerated of the homicide charges brought against him by the government and the media.

Innocent victims: Prosecutors said Marine Frank Wuterich led his men on a rampage in which they stormed two homes in an Iraqi town.

The killings in Haditha on November 19, 2005, still fuel anger in Iraq and was the primary reason behind demands that U.S. troops not be given immunity from their court system. It is considered among the war's defining moments, further tainting America's reputation when it was already at a low point after the release of photos of prisoner abuse by U.S. soldiers at Abu Ghraib prison.

The trial was delayed for years by pre-trial wrangling between the defense and prosecution, including over whether the military could use unaired outtakes from an interview Wuterich gave in 2007 to CBS '60 Minutes'. Prosecutors eventually won the right to view the footage.

Google’s introduction into the world of social networking has obviously been a success as it currently has over 90 million individual users, reports CEO Larry Page as of January, 2012. In a press release, which was issued by Google in the 4th quarter, Page stated that he is enthusiastic about the growth of Gmail, Android and Google Plus, which has reached over 90 million users worldwide. This is a phenomenal growth in such a short time period for any website, even for Google.

The Beginning
The first official estimate, which was published in October, 2011, was less than half of its current user count at a mere 40 million. Paul Allen, a noted Google+ watcher, reported that in December he estimated Google+ had a user base of 62 million individuals. Another estimate about number of Google Plus users in the future is going much further and estimates that in less than 12 months, by the end of 2012, over 400 million people will be using the service actively. Page has yet to come out with his own estimate of how many people will be using the service at the end of 2012.

Activity Level of Users
Page, who is also a co-founder of Google, also was quick to report that the individuals that do use the service are very engaged with the service and over half, 60% actually, use it on a daily basis. Over 75% use Google+ on a weekly basis. The extent of how involved each user is with the service varies and was not specified in-depth by Page, but could be as simple as someone checking their Gmail account every day or looking up directions on Google Maps. An active user doesn’t need to be on the site for hours every day to count as being active.

Future Growth
Google+ is not even a year old since it was first introduced in June of 2011. The level of growth it has seen since it first surfaced on the Internet is extraordinary and it appears that the level of interaction and involvement is only going to increase through the year as it grows in popularity and more people become aware of its usefulness and purpose along with the ability to compete with other networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The growth does still need some time though, especially since estimates from professional analysts think that Facebook may have 1 billion users by the time August rolls around.

There is some controversy over the numbers from the Federal Trade Commission though after Google introduced an initiative that combined its Google+ data with the regular searches made on the Google search engine in the form of “Search Plus Your World.”

Google itself doesn’t need to focus strictly on Google+ though. They also had reports of some other large numbers on Thursday that are nothing to roll heads about. Over 250 million Android devices are currently on the market, up from 50 million in the previous quarter, which shows how many tablets and cell phones utilize the open-source operating system. This previous quarter was Google’s first where it reported a $10 billion profit or more, with a total of $10.58 billion in revenues during the 4th quarter of 2011.

Here's a look at four ways you can tweak your Facebook settings to cut down on News Feed junk and make that feature more productive for you.

1. An Alternative to "Unfriending"
If you have friends you want to remove from your Facebook like but think unfriending them is too harsh, there is an alternative: You can unsubscribe from them.

If you choose to unsubscribe from a friend, none of his or her Facebook updates will appear in your News Feed but you'll still be friends. They will still be able to contact you, and you can still contact them. That friend won't ever know that you've unsubscribed from them, which they could discover if you unfriend them.

To unsubscribe from a friend, visit his or her Facebook profile. On the top-right of his or her page, you'll see a series of buttons: Friends, Subscribed, Message or a gear icon. Click the Subscribed button to reveal a menu of options. To unsubscribe from your friend, click the "Unsubscribe" option.

You can also unsubscribe from friends right from your News Feed. To do so, hover over one of their posts and click the arrow for a drop-down menu. Here, you'll have the option to unsubscribe from your friend entirely or unsubscribe from just their status updates.

Wasn't he the one who threw the bankers of the day out of the temples decrying usuary as slavery? Didn't he show us how to be self reliant and care for each other? In fact at every opportunity he opposed state interference in peoples lives. Didn't people pretty much live in slavery 2,000 years ago and didn't he try to stop the enslavement of mankind.

So maybe, just maybe the new Messiah is walking among us now - or maybe the Messiah is all of us - the ones fighting for self reliance, freedom, independence and for good. Maybe the Messiah are the occupy protesters, the freedom fighters of the Middle East or just the plain old awkward squad (or even Michael Moore lol!!)

The Huawei Ascend P1 S measures in at a teeny 6.68mm at its thinnest point (ignore the security tag in our pic) and offers a snappy dual-core 1.5GHz processor alongside a not-too-big-not-too-small 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen. A beautifully bright screen, but with a 960x540 resolution, not quite up to the quality of the 720p screens we’ve been more used to recently.

The slim body of the P1 S hasn’t meant a scaling back in connectivity, and the Huawei handset features both micro USB and microSD ports. The latter is much needed due to the rather small 4GB on-board storage, but its expandability potential makes this less of an issue.

Another big selling point for the P1 S is the fact that it will ship with Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich, something that many other handsets are not. The handset we saw seemed to be running a vanilla version of 4.0, but we’d expect Huawei will be adding some of its own tweaks before shipping.

The back of the handset houses an eight-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, and when testing it out, we noticed it the camera app offered added extras such as an HDR mode iPhone users may be used to and face detection.

The Huawei P1 S has a fully plastic shell and, while it feels sturdy enough, we’re much more keen on the more premium materials we’ve seen in handsets from Nokia, HTC and Apple. Perhaps this will be reflected in the price, but this is yet to be seen.

Huawei says that it plans to ship the Ascend P1 S in Europe in April, although we’re yet to hear from any carriers confirming this. We’ll bring you more news as we get it, but in the meantime leave us your comments below.

Following on the from the seven-inch Flyer earlier this year, HTC has released a more 'standard' sized tablet in the US, with a 10.1-inch screen. Packing a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, it's the fastest Android tablet on the market in terms of pure processor power, and doesn't disappoint elsewhere either. It offers an eight-megapixel camera, solid brushed aluminium back and Android Honeycomb - something sorely missing from the Flyer.

Unfortunately we're still waiting for a UK release date, and while we do, keeping our fingers crossed for a more sensible price than the Flyer had.

Sony Tablet P

Sony's Tablet P stands out from the crowd thanks to its clamshell design, making it the perfect compact device for throwing into a bag without worrying about scratching the screen. Each screen measures up at 5.5 inches and as well as browsing, the tablet also works great for gaming - with the bottom screen working as the controls. We can't wait to see more from this one.

Toshiba AT200

The AT200 is Tosh's second stab at the tablet game, and we suspect it could be more successful than its first. For a start, it's got the 'world's thinnest tablet' claim to its name at 7.7mm thick, but it's also up to scratch spec-wise.

Currently running Android 3.2, it features a bright 10.1-inch screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and up to 64GB on-board storage (expandable via microSD). It also has stylish brushed aluminium back design and at just 558g, its seriously lightweight too.

Panasonic Toughpad FZ-A1

Panasonic's Toughpad is aimed at a very different audience to most tablets, offering a rugged design and a big focus on security. Not for the average commuter wanting to play Angry Birds on the way to work, the 10.1-inch Toughpad is designed for mobile outdoor workers in challenging conditions such as aviation, construction and public safety. It holds its own in the spec department, with Android 3.2 on-board, not to mention 16GB storage, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 10-hour battery life and five-megapixel camera as well.

The Media Edition of the Xoom 2 is the smaller brother of the 10.1-inch version, with its screen measuring in at 8.2 inches. Boxer, social activist and icon to millions, sporting great Muhammad Ali today celebrates his 70th birthday. Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky in the heart America's segregated south, Ali rose to global fame as a charismatic individual who was always up for a fight - whether it be inside or outside the ring.

Having boxed as an amateur since 1954, the man then still known as Cassius Clay first rose to prominence as a member of the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team at the 1960 Rome games. During these early fights, it became clear that Clay was a real talent, light on his feet and in possession of a powerful jab. After winning his first three bouts, Clay then beat Poland's Zbigniew Pietrzkowski to win the gold medal.

In 1963, Cassius Clay faced a highly-anticipated fight against British boxing great Henry Cooper at London's Wembley Stadium. Despite being floored by 'Enry's 'Ammer', Clay came out victorious after a deep cut ended Cooper's challenge in the fifth.

By now, Clay's talent, braggadocio, charisma and colourful turn of phrase had seen him become a household name around the world, and he was soon posing for photo opportunities with other icons of the time, such as The Beatles.

Despite being a rank outsider prior to the fight, Clay managed to dethrone defending champion Sonny Liston at the tender age of 22. Liston retired in the seventh, helping Clay to break the record for the youngest ever heavyweight champion of the world.

A rematch the following year ended in controversial circumstances after Liston was floored in the first round by what became known as Ali's 'phantom punch'.

After much spiritual searching, Clay decided to follow the influence of social activist Malcolm X and join black Muslim group the Nation of Islam. Initially, he decided to drop his 'slave name' Clay and asked to be addressed as Cassius X. Eventually, however, he settled on the Islamic monicker Muhammad Ali.

Ali successfully defended his title and cemented his self-proclaimed status as 'the greatest' by flooring former title-holder Floyd Patterson in Las Vegas.

That victory would come in the African nation of Zaire (modern day Democratic Republic of Congo) in the so-called 'Rumble in the Jungle' - one of boxing promoter Don King's first professional ventures. Ali defeated then-heavyweight champion George Foreman, knocking him out in the eighth.

Ali met Joe Frazier for a third time in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines in 1975 in a fight branded the 'Thrilla in Manila'. Widely considered one of the greatest fights in boxing history, the bitter rivalry between the two men came to a brutal climax and saw Ali emerging victorious in the 15th, winning by TKO.

In February 1978, Ali lost his heavweight title to 1976 Olympic Light-Heavyweight Champion Leon Spinks, but went on to fight a rematch later in the year which would see him win the WBA version of the Heavyweight title for a record third time.

Ali's final fight came in 1981 in Nassau, Bahamas and pitted him against the up-and-coming Trevor Berbick. Ali lost the bout by unanimous decision after 10 rounds.

In September 1984, Ali announced that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome, a neurological disease prevalent in those who have suffered severe head trauma. After being diagnosed with the condition, Ali told reporters: 'I'm always tired'.

Despite his disability, Ali has remained a highly active public figure, and lit the Olympic torch during the opening ceremony of the 1996 Atlanta games.

England made a meager 192 runs as Pakistan bowled them out in 73 overs during the opening day of the first cricket Test against Pakistan at Dubai Stadium here on Tuesday.

Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal destroyed England’s top-order with figures of 7-55. The last man out, James Anderson, was sent to the pavilion after being given LBW on Ajmal’s third delivery of his 25th over.
34-year-old Ajmal, whose claims of a mystery delivery surrounded the lead-up to the three-Test series, came into his own after being introduced in the 19th over, leaving England, who decided to bat on a slow turning pitch, in an early spin.

Ajmal dismissed Andrew Strauss (19) with the last delivery of his first over and then had Ian Bell (nought) with the first ball of his next before trapping Kevin Pietersen (two) leg before three balls later.
The early success of Pakistan, who chose Ajmal and left-armer Abdul Rehman as two spinners, would leave England rueing their decision to leave out the in-form Monty Panesar and play three seamers alongside off-spinner Graeme Swann.

According to a press statement issued by the UN Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Tuesday, the talented all-rounder has been appointed in recognition of his outstanding sporting record and for his popularity among cricket fans who have nicknamed him “Boom Boom Afridi”.

“I have never done anything halfway and will give my all to my new role,” Afridi said, accepting his two-year assignment. “I hate to see drugs ruin the lives of young people. If I can convince even one boy or girl to shirk the habit, I will be proud [of myself].”

You probably regret taking out so many loans and not worrying about it. The best thing to do would be to get a job and just pay off your debt as fast as you can. As soon as your debts are paid off, your life will be a lot less stressful. You will sleep easy at night.

3. Stay close with family
Up to this point, you have always focused on your friends. Now, you realize that the people who have always stuck by your side are your family. Friends come and go but no matter what you do, you will always have the exact same family members. As you get married and have kids, you will just add on to the family. Spend time with your family and really get to know them because they will be with you always.

4. Do things that mean something
Don’t just mess around with our life. Now is the time to get out there and actually do something meaningful. For example, go volunteer for things that help people who are less fortunate. You can go build houses for Habitat for Humanity or you can raise money for those who are living in poverty. You may be focused on yourself and maybe you have trouble thinking about other people. Cyberfraud And The Smartphone

These days most of us are pretty vigilant when it comes to cyberfraud on our PCs. We know to have anti virus software installed, not to click on suspicious emails and to take care when browsing the internet, but now there’s a new threat. Recent months have seen a sudden increase in cyber criminals targeting smartphones , with some reports claiming a rise in smartphone cyberfraud of up to 800% in just four months.

One of the biggest culprits for leaving users open to cyberfraud are rouge apps. Rogue apps come in many forms and are often available across multiple platforms. Some are disguised as genuine apps, others as new levels for existing gaming apps and some are even fully function apps with malware hidden within the application’s code.

All Smartphones are at risk, although those running Google’s Android operating system are particularly vulnerable. Speaking to Sky News Catalin Cosoi from internet security software firm Bitdefender said, “We’ve investigated Android apps and, based on our stats, we’ve seen a 2000% increase of malicious applications compared to last year. Our predictions are that over the following six months we will see a 6000% increase in malicious apps.”

The most simple con sees your smartphone being taken over by the rogue app and either phone calls being made, or SMS messages being repeatedly sent, to premium rate telephone numbers set up by cyber criminals. As this process often runs in the background, without the users knowledge, the first they’ll know of any problem is when a whopping great phone bill lands on their doormat; and by then it’s often already too late.

Tony Neale, managing director of Get Safe Online, a joint initiative between the Government, police and leading UK businesses said of this growing threat “The first a victim might know is when they get their bill. If you don’t check bills and pay by direct debit, you may not notice until a large sum of money goes out of your bank account.”

As well as being at risk from malicious apps, smartphone users are also open to attack when using public WiFi. Speaking on Twitter UK based ‘ethical hacker’ Henry Harrison, said “Every time you are using a public wifi you are putting yourself at risk.”

One of the favourite tricks used by tech savvy hackers is to set up a malicious WiFi connection parading itself as a free WiFi hotspot. With some smartphones actually set up to automatically connect to any available hotspots this is a criminal’s goldmine. For those who’s phones don’t connect automatically, they may still connect manually – after all how many people can resist the offer of free WiFi?

Once connected to your smart device cyberfraudsters are then free to harvest any information stored on the phone or tablet including any personal information, saved passwords or even credit card details.
To reduce the chances of becoming the next victim of smartphone cyberfraud, users are advised to always check their mobile bills, only ever to download mobile apps from legitimate sources, keep an eye out for unusual phone activity, such as unusually slow operation or fast power drain, avoid using public WiFi hotspots, and, just like your desktop or laptop PC, install anti-virus software on your smartphone.

Rosewill looks to step out from the shadow of Newegg

Rosewill is a company that is closely associated by name with Newegg. Rosewill has been Newegg's house brand since 2004, but is now looking to spread its wings and make a name for itself. Instead of selling just on Newegg to U.S.-based customers, Rosewill now market to various other countries, further distance itself from being a Newegg-only property, and continue its reputation for value.

Rosewill Marketing Manager Chinny Chuang gave us an overview of some of the new products that are launching at CES. The first new product demo was of the Thor V2 White Edition. It supports Micro-ATX, E-ATX, and XL-ATX motherboard, features 14 tool-less drive bays (six internal 5.25", six internal 3.5", and two external), 10 expansion slots (13-inch-long graphics cards are supported), USB 3.0 connectivity, two fan controllers, and four system fans.

Also new is the new CAPSTONE line of power supplies. The CAPSTONE Series will be available in 450W, 550W, 650W, and 750W models with no modular capabilities. The CAPSTONE Modular Series will be available in 650W and 750W models. All models feature a single 12V rail, are SLI and CrossFire ready, include Active-PFC, and a 140mm cooling fan with auto speed control.

Other new products include the RX-358 USB 3.0/eSATA enclosure, RNC-MiniN2 Wireless adapter which brings 300Mbps 802.11n to devices that are lacking such support via USB 2.0, two new all-aluminum notebook coolers (the 15" RLCP-1002 and the 17.3" RLCP-1104), a range of new iPhones docks, and the rather interesting RMND-11001 lap desk.

The lap desk has legs that can adjust to many different angles thanks to locking buttons on each swiveling leg. The entire apparatus is made of aluminum alloy for sturdiness, supports up to 20" laptops (or up to 33 pods), and includes a three-port USB 3.0 hub on the bottom of the laptop stand.
